Time, Our Signature
« Since 1795, our mission has remained the same: to secure the decisions that matter. Only the way we fulfil that mission has evolved. »
Our Heritage
Since 1795, our firm has advised families, entrepreneurs and the economic community of Cannes on the decisions that shape their assets and their future. Our history has grown alongside that of Cannes. For more than two centuries, the firm has played an active role in the legal life of the city, accompanying its transformation from a small Mediterranean town to the internationally renowned destination it is today.
Over the generations, several distinguished families of notaries have led the firm, including the Gazagnaire, Labaste and Vouillon families. Each has contributed to shaping its identity and establishing its lasting place in the history of Cannes. Two of its predecessors also served as Mayor of Cannes, among them Maître André Vouillon, who held office from 1968 to 1971.
For many years, the firm welcomed its clients at 7 Rue des États-Unis, an address closely associated with generations of Cannois. The notarial archives preserved since the late eighteenth century continue to reflect the evolution of families, property and the city itself.
More than two centuries after its foundation, this heritage is more than a legacy. It is a responsibility that continues to guide the way we practise our profession, with independence, sound judgement and a long-term perspective.

1795 Notaires
In 2017, the firm moved to its current offices at 25 Rue des Serbes, designed to reflect the changing practice of the profession while offering clients a welcoming, functional and contemporary environment.Conceived in harmony with their surroundings, these premises also pay tribute to Cannes and to one of the events that has contributed to its international reputation for nearly eight decades: the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2025, the firm adopted the name 1795 Notaires.
Far from marking a new beginning, this name honours the year in which the firm was founded and reflects the continuity between its history and its future.
The world evolves, the law evolves and so do the expectations of our clients. New technologies, changing practices and the transformation of the legal profession continually reshape the way we work while reinforcing the need for legal certainty.
Faithful to its heritage, the firm embraces these developments with discernment and purpose. By refining its methods, integrating meaningful innovation and continually adapting its practice, 1795 Notaires remains firmly rooted in its history while looking confidently towards the future.

Today, Stéphane Vouillon, Marie-Louise Gantelme-Trastour and Philippe Clément continue this legacy through a shared vision of the profession.Alongside them, a team of experienced notaries and legal professionals, continuously trained in legal, regulatory and technological developments, shares the same commitment to technical excellence, availability and thoughtful legal advice.
Every matter receives the same level of care, whether it concerns a family, a business, an investor or a public institution. Behind every notarial act lies a project, a family legacy, a business venture or an important decision requiring careful analysis, sound judgement and meticulous attention.
A firm's identity is shaped by its history. Its strength comes from the people who bring that history to life.
Since 1795, generations have succeeded one another, the law has evolved and society has changed. Yet one principle remains unchanged: placing expertise, independence and a genuine commitment to service at the heart of every engagement, so as to remain, today as always, worthy of the trust our clients place in us.
